I've had so much fun this past year sharing my insider tips with you that I thought I'd let some of my colleagues get in on the action. Here's Part One of some expert tips from members of the Fairmont Miramar family. Stay tuned for Part Two!

Ryan, Concierge
Best local restaurant: Via Veneto in Santa Monica. The combination of food and ambiance is unparalleled. The panna cotta is the best on the planet.
Best place for after-work cocktails: Casa del Mar lobby bar in Santa Monica. It has a beautiful view, comfy chairs and a stocked bar.

Darin, In-Room Dining
Best local restaurant: Stevens Steak House in nearby Commerce. The food is really good, with a great variety of seafood and steak. But I also like the entertainment: they have music and three dance floors — salsa, merengue and bachata.
Must-see: I like hiking and mountain biking in the Angeles National Forest. The Canyonback trail in the Santa Monica Mountains and the Runyon Trails have beautiful mountain and ocean views.

Julian, Bell Desk
Best local restaurant: Pizzeria Mozza in Hollywood. It's the best pizza in Los Angeles. I love the bacon, fennel, salami, tomato and spicy guanciale pie.
Best place for after-work cocktails: Cabo Cantina in Santa Monica. Great for after-work cocktails because it’s so close to the hotel. It’s affordable fun: two-for-one drinks and good nachos! For a more upscale bar, the Bar Marmont at Chateau Marmont provides a stylish, intimate setting and small menu. And the music is always good.

Tom, Controller
Best local restaurant: The Pacific Dining Car in Santa Monica. It’s my favorite because of their service, and I like everything on the menu.
Must-see: The Queen Mary in Long Beach. It's awe-inspiring to walk through this famous ocean liner — you get a real sense of its scale, and a truly personal experience with a piece of history.
