The Plaza Reopens the Tricycle Garage

I’ve had the pleasure of arranging rides for guests in The Plaza’s beautiful house car. No one ever forgets the experience of driving down Fifth Avenue in a Rolls Royce Phantom.

Starting this month though, we’ve added a few more vehicles to the hotel’s fleet — only these you get to drive yourself! I’m talking about Radio Flyer tricycles, bicycles and scooters, reminiscent of the ones The Plaza used to keep in the 1950s.

Inspired by Kay Thompson’s Eloise, the hotel opened the Tricycle Garage in 1956 to house children’s two-wheelers (and three!) in a whimsical, candy store-style setting. Now the Plaza Boutique has brought the idea back: kids of all ages can rent a bicycle from our new Tricycle Garage for $20 per hour up to $40 for a full day. Each rental includes a helmet, a lock and an Eloise-branded bottled water.

I recommend families take a cruise through Central Park (our own backyard, of course). You can pedal up to the park’s Swedish Cottage for a fantastic puppet show. Watch my short video for all the details of this perfect family outing.
