When Sloane opened up in SoMa at the end of 2009 it had everything going for it, or almost everything: live DJs, a cool lounge-bar layout, and a great party atmosphere in an up-and-coming area for upscale nightspots.

The one thing missing, though, was a proper dance floor. Well, welcome Sloane Squared: same spot but with 6,000 square-feet more fun.

A decade ago, after the dot-com bubble burst, and most of the digital companies closed shop in the South Park area of SoMa, I wouldn't have sent my guests anywhere near there. But these days it's abuzz again with cool destination shopping and eating...

I’m hosting a sleepover for 10 10-year-olds: On Saturday we’re doing a SciFi movie in the backyard with smores. On Sunday we’re going to Maker Faire and Smitten Ice Cream. My question is where do we do breakfast on Sunday morning?

That's mostly because of Blue Bottle Coffee and Miette (stay tuned for my upcoming video on their delectable cakes and candy). Now there's a new fix on the block: Smitten Ice Cream...

Sake is a big part of the springtime season, and a huge part of Japanese culture, period. My first memories of sake were as a 10-year-old boy living in Kobe. No, I wasn't an under-age alcoholic...

For centuries, the Japanese have celebrated cherry blossoms and the birth of spring. And this year, like every year for the past 43 years, San Francisco's Japantown will host the annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival. Except, of course, this year is different...

Now that we're officially in the first week of spring, it's about time we revisited the Presidio. But hurry — because Presidio Habitats, a yearlong open-air art exhibition will be winding down on May 15...

Flavor menu at Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous

It may be March but that means nothing to ice cream junkies like myself when scoops of roasted white chocolate lavender are on the menu. In the past few years, you see, San Francisco has seen a wave of daring, new ice cream parlors...

If there's a city in America that cares more about locally sourced food than San Francisco, I want to live there now!
